Two stalwarts of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are all set to spell the magic of their game in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to include both the senior batsmen in the squad for the prestigious domestic tournament.
According to reports, the BCCI selectors want all the key players to be part of the Duleep Trophy so that they can get into the groove for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The Duleep Trophy is scheduled to begin on September 5 and the first match will be played in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
As per the BCCI’s plan, a crucial round of the tournament will be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Here, the chances of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli playing are quite high. However, the venue in Anantapur is not connected by air transport, making it unlikely that big names will play in the first match. But in the Bengaluru leg, cricket lovers will get full opportunity to watch their favourite stars.
According to reports, the BCCI is likely to organise a short camp ahead of the Bangladesh series in Chennai after the first round of the Duleep Trophy. If that happens, the participation of players in the first round of Duleep Trophy can be ensured.
Additionally, the BCCI is also set to discuss the selection of players for the next two Test matches. India’s cricket calendar is busy, including the five-match Test series against Australia. The Duleep Trophy will provide a great opportunity for the players to get into rhythm.
Apart from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, plans are afoot to rest Jasprit Bumrah while Mohammed Shami will return for the Bangladesh series.
The BCCI has also asked KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav to play in the Duleep Trophy.
The BCCI will be fielding four teams
India A, India B, India C and India D.
The six matches of the Duleep Trophy will start from September 5 and continue till September 24. The first Test between India and Bangladesh will be played in Chennai from September 19.
It remains to be seen which stars shine in domestic tournaments and international series.
