Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes has heaped praise on India’s limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma. “Rohit is a fantastic captain and doing a great job for the team.”
The two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh will be played in Bengaluru. Ahead of the series, Jonty Rhodes has shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
“Rohit is a great captain and India is doing well under his leadership.
Rohit Sharma is the captain of Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Under his captaincy, Mumbai Indians have won the IPL title a record 5 times. Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful captains in IPL history.
But Rhodes didn’t just praise Rohit’s captaincy. He also said some interesting things about Rohit’s personality.
Jonty Rhodes said on the Alina Dissects YouTube channel
“I mean he hasn’t changed at all, how ridiculous it is, you know. I just imagine his moves when he went out to bat and he did some throw-downs or even shadow-hitting in the nets, you know it was just majestic so they didn’t practice as hard. He may have practiced sometimes away from the net, but just his technical ability and I think he didn’t always have the best technique. He’s been criticised, not a lot of foot movement, but because he’s very comfortable at the crease, his hands move very well, and it’s been great to watch him because he stayed, you know, he stayed the same and he stayed true to himself.”
Rhodes said Rohit is a fun-loving person and loves to have fun with his teammates. The players don’t feel any pressure under his captaincy.
Rhodes also spoke about Rohit’s batting style. “Rohit probably doesn’t have the perfect technique like Sachin Tendulkar, but he bats very impressively in his own way. Rhodes said that Rohit stands very comfortably at the crease and his hand movement is very good.”
Rhodes also made an interesting point that Rohit doesn’t practice much. “When Rohit goes to bat, looking at his movement, it looks like he hasn’t practiced much. And yet, they do a great job. Rhodes called it Rohit’s natural talent.
Some people have been criticising Rohit’s footwork. Rhodes also gave his opinion on this. “Maybe Rohit doesn’t have a lot of footwork, but he makes up for it with his other qualities. Rhodes said Rohit’s biggest quality is that he is true to his game and doesn’t change his style.
Good news for all Rohit Sharma fans. To get such a compliment from a legendary player is a big thing for any cricketer. This is even more special for Rohit as he is currently the captain of the Indian team and has a big responsibility on him.
India and Bangladesh will play a five-match Test series. The first match of the series will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19. After the praise of Jonty Rhodes, Rohit’s fans are even more hopeful that he will perform well in this series and lead Team India to victory.
From Jonty Rhodes’ words, it is clear that Rohit Sharma is a player who plays in his natural way and sticks to his style. That’s what makes him different from other players.
