Former West Indies all-rounder and Chennai Super Kings legend Dwayne Bravo has parted ways with the Chennai franchise joining IPL’s defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor starting from the 2025 season. Bravo will replace Gautam Gambhir at KKR, as Gambhir has taken on the role of India’s head coach.
“I’ve been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the last 10 years in the CPL. Having played for and against the Knight Riders in various leagues, I have a lot of respect for how they operate. The owners’ passion, the professionalism of the management, and the family-like environment make it a special place. This is the perfect platform for me as I transition from playing to mentoring and coaching the next generation of players,” Bravo said in a statement.
The legendary West Indian all-rounder only retired from all forms of cricket on Thursday. In his Instagram announcement, Bravo wrote: “Today is the day I say goodbye to the game that has given me everything. From the age of five, I knew this was what I wanted to do—this was the sport I was destined to play. I had no interest in anything else, and I dedicated my entire life to you. In return, you gave me the life I dreamed of for myself and my family. For that, I can’t thank you enough.”
Bravo’s T20 record
At the international level, the 40-year-old first retired in 2018 but reversed his decision in 2019 to play in the T20 World Cup 2020. He officially retired again in 2021.
Overall Bravo played 582 T20 matches, taking 631 wickets and scoring nearly 7,000 runs, solidifying his reputation as one of the game’s greatest all-rounders.
