The KKR CEO Venky Mysore has chosen not to comment on the claims made by Mitchell Starc ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. The fast bowler stated that no one from the franchise reached out to him after he was let go from the team.
All IPL teams have finalized their lists of players they are keeping and releasing. KKR used all six of their retention spots and will go into the IPL 2025 auction without any Right to Match (RTM) cards.
KKR decided not to keep Mitchell Starc before the IPL 2025 auction. The IPL 2024 winners retained Rinku Singh as their top pick for INR 13 crore and also spent INR 12 crore each on Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Varun Chakaravarthy. They re-signed two uncapped players, Ramandeep Singh and Harshit Rana, for INR 4 crore each.
Many were surprised that KKR did not retain Starc who was the most expensive player in last year’s IPL auction. The left-arm pacer was bought by KKR for INR 24.75 crore and had a good impact on the team.
Starc struggled early in IPL 2024 – not finding his rhythm and giving up runs. However he improved as the tournament went on and helped the team win.
Starc performed well in the playoffs, taking 17 wickets in the last season, including a match-winning 2/14 that helped KKR secure their third title. The franchise dominated the league and won most of their games, including the final.
“I still haven’t heard from them. It is what it is; that’s franchise cricket,” Starc said, acknowledging that his experience is part of the nature of franchise cricket. He added that everyone, except for the players from Hyderabad (Pat Cummins and Travis Head), will be in the auction.
After Starc’s comments about KKR, the Times of India attempted to contact KKR CEO Venky Mysore for confirmation. However, Mysore did not reply to the message and also blocked the contact on WhatsApp.
