Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has hired Omkar Salvi the former assistant bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
Reports say Salvi who recently had great success coaching Mumbai in domestic cricket will join RCB after the current season ends. He will be the fast-bowling coach making this his second IPL coaching stint after working with KKR.
Salvi is known for staying low-key about his coaching roles but has done an excellent job with Mumbai leading them to win the Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup. He is also coaching them in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.
Omkar Salvi is under contract with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) until March 2025. For those unfamiliar, he is the younger brother of former India player Avishkar Salvi. As a player Omkar appeared in just one List-A match for Railways in 2005.
RCB has also appointed former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik as their batting coach and mentor for IPL 2025. Despite being one of the most popular IPL teams RCB has never won the trophy and will aim to change that in the upcoming season.
Before the season, RCB has retained only three players: Virat Kohli (₹21 crore), Rajat Patidar (₹11 crore), and Yash Dayal (₹5 crore). They have released their captain, Faf du Plessis, and will look for a new one during the mega auction on November 24 and 25.
The BCCI recently revealed the final list of 574 players for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Out of these 366 are Indians, and 208 are overseas players including three from associate nations.
The auction includes 318 uncapped Indian players and 12 uncapped overseas players. There are 204 available slots with 70 reserved for overseas players. ₹2 Crore is the highest base price, and 81 players have opted for this bracket.
