Former Indian Premier League (IPL) auctioneer Hugh Edmeades has made a big statement regarding the possible bid for Virat Kohli. Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli could be worth over Rs 30 crore if he ever makes it to the auction, according to Hugh Edmeades.
Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer in the history of IPL. He has scored 8004 runs at an average of 38.67 and a strike rate of 131.97, including 7 hundreds and 55 fifties. His stupendous performance has made him the ‘King Kohli’ of IPL.
Virat Kohli, who was picked under the U-19 draft by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the inaugural edition of the IPL, has become an icon in the world of cricket today.
After winning the World Cup with India’s U-19 team in 2008, Kohli started his career and RCB saw him as an important player.
Virat Kohli was picked at a price of USD 30,000 at that time. However, his first season did not go as expected and he scored just 165 runs in 13 matches at an average of 15 and a strike-rate of 105.09. Despite this, RCB kept full faith in him and today Virat Kohli has become the biggest superstar in the history of IPL.
In a conversation with Arvind Krishnan for CricBlog, Hugh Edmeades said,
I believe Virat’s price will go above Rs 30 crore. It will be a huge amount of money in the auction and Virat will be honoured to be in the auction.
“Without any carelessness – how long is a ball? Selling Virat in the auction will be the biggest honour. Regarding the price, I think he will fetch more than 3,000 lakhs.”
Hugh Edmeades also gave his opinion on the auction strategy. “The most important thing for me is to not miss out on any bids and ensure fairness with all the franchises. This gives them a reasonable amount of time to decide whether they want to continue bidding or not.”
“It’s always a pleasure when a young Indian player enters the bidding fray. Varun Chakravarthy was one such player in the 2019 auction. His base price was 20 lakhs and he was eventually bought for 840 lakhs.”
Hearing about the possible multi-crore bid for Virat Kohli has created an atmosphere of excitement and curiosity among cricket lovers and IPL fans. Now it has to be seen how high Virat Kohli’s rate can go if he ever comes to the auction in the future.
