Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth recently made a bold prediction about Rohit Sharma as India grapples with the shock of their 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand. He believes India’s upcoming Test tour of Australia will be a defining moment for Rohit in Test cricket.
Srikkanth predicts that if Rohit doesn’t perform well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, he may retire from Test cricket and focus only on ODIs.
Having already retired from T20Is, India’s Test and ODI captain must be aware of the importance of bouncing back, especially after his poor form in recent matches.

However, Srikkanth pointed out that Rohit’s willingness to acknowledge his struggles as captain and player is a step toward redemption. According to Srikkanth, Rohit’s openness to criticism is the mark of a leader on the path to a comeback.
Srikkanth said, “If Rohit Sharma doesn’t do well in Australia, I think he will retire from Test cricket. He’ll focus on ODIs. He’s already left T20Is, and we have to remember he’s not getting younger.”
Srikkanth also praised Rohit’s courage, adding, “Hats off to Rohit for admitting his poor performance in both his batting and captaincy. Accepting your mistakes is key to improvement. By acknowledging it openly, he’s on the road to recovery, in my opinion.”
Meanwhile, Srikkanth expressed full confidence in Virat Kohli, despite his recent rough patch. He’s certain Kohli will find his form again in Australia, saying that Australia is Virat’s territory and he will start his comeback there.
