Team India has faced a significant setback before the first Test against Australia in Perth. Shubman Gill the 25-year-old batter, injured his left thumb while fielding in the slips during a match simulation with India A at the WACA.
According to a PTI report, scans confirmed a fracture, making it unlikely for him to play the first Test starting November 22.
Details of Gill’s Injury Gill sustained the injury on Day 2 of the simulation and immediately left the field for scans. Reports indicate that a thumb fracture generally takes about 14 days to heal.
This timeline could make him available for the second Test in Adelaide, beginning on December 6. Earlier Gill had missed India’s opening Test against New Zealand due to neck stiffness but returned for the final two matches, scoring 144 runs, including a 90 in Mumbai.
Injury Concerns for KL Rahul and Virat Kohli KL Rahul also suffered a bruised elbow after being hit by a short ball from Prasidh Krishna but is expected to recover in time for the first Test.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli underwent scans after an injury scare but is reportedly “absolutely fine” and has been batting without discomfort.
Uncertainty Around Rohit Sharma’s Availability Skipper Rohit Sharma is yet to join the squad in Australia, as he and his wife Ritika Sajdeh welcomed their second child recently. If Rohit cannot make it in time, vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah is likely to lead the team in Perth.
Team Preparations in Perth The Indian squad, currently training at the WACA, opted for match simulations instead of a practice match against India A. If Rohit remains unavailable, KL Rahul is expected to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starts at the Optus Stadium on November 22.
