Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan recently announced his retirement through a heartfelt video on social media. In this touching message Shikhar Dhawan expressed his gratitude to his family childhood coach the Indian team and BCCI for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
The left-handed batsman last represented India in the ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022. Shikhar Dhawan confirmed his retirement from international and domestic cricket leaving fans and players alike wondering about his future in the IPL.
When a player especially an Indian cricketer announces retirement there’s often speculation about their status in the IPL. After winning the T20 World Cup both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from T20 internationals but confirmed their intent to continue playing in the IPL.
In a similar vein Shikhar Dhawan, while announcing his retirement, mentioned that he is stepping away from international and domestic cricket, but he left the door open for an IPL return without explicitly ruling it out.
This vague statement has sparked interest among fans about whether Shikhar Dhawan will indeed be seen on the field during IPL 2025.
Teams’ options for keeping or acquiring players are limited because the 2018 Indian Premier League season will include a massive auction. Due to his underwhelming performance in the previous season with the Punjab Kings Shikhar Dhawan’s status for the 2025 Indian Premier League is now even more dubious.
In a prior interview Shikhar Dhawan acknowledged the challenges he faced noting that he is still in the recovery process and has not yet achieved full fitness.
“Unfortunately I got injured this IPL season and could not play for Punjab except for 4-5 matches. It takes time to recover. I am still healing. I have not recovered 100 percent yet” Dhawan stated.
If Punjab Kings decide not to retain Shikhar Dhowan for the IPL 2025, then surely some other franchise will be ready to snap him up if he gets fit. Fans cannot wait to see whether Shikhar Dhawan will participate again in the IPL in 2025 or not.
