The IPL is all set to return for its 18th edition in 2025 and Mumbai Indians are predicted to to retain their star players like Rohit Sharma ahead of IPL 2025 according to a report.
Previously there were some reports that Rohit was looking to part ways with the franchise after he was removed from captaincy. This edition will be extra special as the mega auction marks its comeback after three years since IPL 2022.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is expected to announce the retention rules for the teams ahead of IPL 2025 and all eyes will be on what transpires at the Mumbai
Indians particularly in light of the turmoil during IPL 2024 when Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as captain. Now fans are eager to see who stays and who departs from MI, with the BCCI likely allowing five retentions per franchise.
Rohit Sharma To Stay With MI
Mumbai Indians are reportedly set to retain Rohit Sharma ahead of IPL 2025, according to The Indian Express. This comes despite rumors that Rohit was considering leaving the franchise following a fallout since Hardik took over the captaincy after being traded from Gujarat Titans before IPL 2024.
Hardik Pandya is also expected to be retained by the IPL franchise, even though his debut as captain in IPL 2024 was far from stellar. MI ended up last in the season, amassing just 8 points from 14 matches.
The Mumbai Indians are also likely to retain both Team India superstars Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, as per The Indian Express. Jasprit Bumrah had an outstanding season for the Mumbai Indians, taking 20 wickets from 13 matches, even during what was the franchise’s worst season in IPL history.
Conversely, it will be intriguing to see how Suryakumar Yadav navigates his role within the franchise, as he may have to take a subordinate position despite being named Team India’s T20I captain.
