Punjab Kings player Shashank Singh has shared his dream of winning IPL trophy for the kings in 2025 season. He expressed his readiness to take up the captaincy if given a chance and is determined to help the franchise secure its first-ever title.
Shashank was one of PBKS’s top performers in IPL 2024 and was retained for INR 5.5 crore along with Prabhsimran Singh. Despite being accidentally picked in the auction he emerged as a key player for the team.
Shashank scored 354 runs in 14 innings at an average of 44.25, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 164.65, with two fifties to his name. He hopes to continue this form in the upcoming season and justify the team’s faith in him.
When asked about the possibility of leading Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 during an interview with News18 Shashank revealed he has substantial captaincy experience and feels confident about taking on the role. He stated:
“Honestly, I don’t know much about it. I have been leading in the DY Patil T20 tournament for five years and touchwood, I’m doing good so far. Even for Chhattisgarh, if the management considers me capable of leading the side, I would accept it happily. I feel that I have the ability to lead a side and win a championship.”
Shashank emphasized that he is ready to embrace any opportunity to captain the team but remains focused on contributing to their success regardless of his role. He said:
“Similarly, if Punjab Kings want to try me as captain, I will grab that opportunity with both hands and make proper use of it. I will be grateful, but I am not expecting anything. However, the responsibility on my shoulder doesn’t change at all. Be it an uncapped player last year or an uncapped retention now, the job is to go out and give my 110% and make the team win.”
As the IPL 2025 auction approaches Punjab Kings are preparing to strengthen their squad, with a focus on adding captaincy options. Holding the largest auction purse they may target players like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul to bolster the team’s chances of a successful campaign.
