The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called an important meeting of franchise owners on July 31 for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. The meeting will be attended by all IPL franchise owners, where new auction guidelines and player-related issues will be discussed.
According to a BCCI statement, the main objective of the meeting was to maintain parity and consistency among the IPL franchises.
Meanwhile, a number of issues are expected to be discussed in the meeting, including the salary cap, impact player rules, and the number of retained players.
According to sources, the Impact Player Rule is expected to be retained for the upcoming season, which could be an important decision for the franchise.
What is the impact player rule in IPL?
According to this rule, each team is allowed to select five substitute players in addition to their playing XI before the start of the match. This ensures that teams can change their strategy no matter what situation they face during the match.
In the initial phase of the match, when a team captain feels that a player is needed, he can pick one of these five substitute players. This is known as an ‘impact player’. An impact player is a player who can be included in the playing XI at any time of the match, without changing other players on conditions.
“The impact player rule will remain in place,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
“We will discuss every aspect with the franchise and decide the future strategy accordingly. We want to have a healthy discussion and the only aim is to ensure that all the franchises get equal opportunities.”
Ahead of the meeting, experts have also suggested that the gap for the mega auction be increased from 3 years to 5 years, so that teams can keep their strategy stable and new players get time to hone themselves.
Also, ahead of this meeting, there is growing excitement about the preparation of the players and the agreements between the franchises. Both sides are waiting for the outcome of the meeting.
This meeting is not only important for the upcoming IPL season, but it will also decide the future direction of Indian cricket.
