Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra recently made a big statement on his YouTube channel in which he called Axar Patel the best choice for the captaincy of Delhi Capitals, saying, “I categorically say that Axar Patel should be made the captain.
In the recent IPL auction, Delhi Capitals have made many big changes. After releasing Rishabh Pant, they have bought KL Rahul for Rs 14 crore. But Aakash Chopra believes that Axar Patel will be a more suitable captain than Rahul.
“Axar Patel is an absolutely mature player and he can run the team well,” he said.
Chopra said in his analysis that Delhi Capitals have many options. Faf du Plessis could also be a potential captain, but there are some challenges with him. “Between Axar and Rahul, my heart is with Axar Patel,” Chopra said.”
Interestingly, Axar Patel is already a part of the core team of Delhi Capitals. Since the final of IPL 2020 till now, he is the only surviving player of the team. He was retained for Rs. 16.50 crore, which shows his importance. “I don’t have any problem with him being the captain,” Chopra jokingly said.
IPL 2025: Why will KL Rahul be an alternative?
KL Rahul is another option. He performed brilliantly for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. In 14 matches, 520 runs, 37 fifties and four centuries – these figures can affect anyone. But Chopra believes that Axar Patel can prove to be a much better captain than Rahul.”
“When they couldn’t keep Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, they took KL Rahul for Rs 14 crore. It’s a kind of ‘theft’.”He meant it to be a very cheap deal, especially on this small and flat ground.
