The IPL Auction 2025 is gearing up to make history in the Indian Premier League. The excitement for the Mega Auction is already high. Meanwhile the BCCI is working on setting the Date, Time and Venue for this big occasion.
This Mega Auction is set to be huge, with all teams receiving their largest-ever budget of INR 120 Crores each. Before the auction the BCCI has asked franchises to submit their player retention lists by October 31, 2024.
If a team keeps all 5 retentions they will spend INR 75 Crores out of their INR 120 Crores budget on those players. Some teams, like Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and RCB may choose a fresh start making player retentions less likely for them. There are rumors that RCB will go for KL Rahul as a new captain.
IPL powerhouses like CSK and Mumbai Indians are focusing on retaining their key players. CSK got a favorable deal as the BCCI brought back an old rule allowing teams to retain any Indian player as an uncapped player for just INR 4 Crores.
This rule allows players like MS Dhoni who haven’t played for India in the past 5 years and don’t hold a central contract with BCCI – to play in the tournament.
