Former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL is still uncertain. New IPL rules allow Dhoni to play in the 2025 season as an uncapped player, which means the Chennai Super Kings can keep him for INR 4 crore.
However Dhoni has not yet announced if he will be available for IPL 2025. The CSK management is said to have left the decision up to him who will decide based on his performance and fitness.
MS Dhoni was expected to meet with Chennai Super Kings officials by mid-October but he hasn’t said anything about his decision yet. There are just two weeks left before the deadline to finalize the player retention list.
A source confirmed that management has reached out to Dhoni but hasn’t gotten a response. A decision will only be made after discussing it with him.
“We have approached him but he hasn’t reverted to us. As far as the meeting and other discussions related to the next IPL season are concerned, we are yet to hear from him. Once we meet, decisions will be taken,” the source was quoted as saying by Sports Tak.
The source added that the CSK management doesn’t make decisions for Dhoni; he has the final say.
“It’s his call. We never take any decision about Dhoni,” the source added.
According to the new IPL rules, each team can keep six players, one of whom must be an uncapped player. Teams can retain a maximum of two uncapped players.
The prices for capped players range from INR 14 crore to INR 18 crore, while uncapped players cost INR 4 crore.
Dhoni qualifies as an uncapped player since he hasn’t played any international matches in the last five years. His last international game was in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.
