IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans have made a big bet by adding Mohammed Siraj to their squad. The team’s assistant coach and batting coach Parthiv Patel has recently shared his views on this major change.
Gujarat Titans at the auctions: Betting crores on Siraj
Mohammed Siraj was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 12.25 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. It was not just a simple purchase, but a strategic decision. Several teams were eager to get Siraj during the auction – Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans. In the end, the Titans won.
It’s a big change for Siraj. This will be their third IPL team after Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. His old relationship with RCB is now over. Parthiv Patel had some interesting things to say about this new journey.
“Our team always gives priority to experienced players,”
Patel said. “Siraj fits into our team perfectly. We thought RCB could use the RTM (Right to Match) card, but that didn’t happen. So we are very happy to have Siraj.”
Mohammed Siraj IPL career
Mohammed Siraj spent seven seasons for RCB. Over the years, he became not just a cricketer but a match-winner. He has some great stats in his IPL career – 93 wickets in 93 matches, an average of 30.35 and an economy rate of 8.65. He is capable of taking wickets with both the new and old ball.
With the entry of Siraj in the Gujarat Titans, the team’s bowling attack has become even stronger. Fast bowlers like Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna and Gerald Coetzee can now combine with Siraj to trouble the opposition teams.
Led by skipper Shubman Gill, who is accompanied by star players like Rashid Khan, Jos Buttler and Sai Sudarshan, Gujarat Titans look all set to win the title this season. After winning their first IPL title in 2022, losing to Chennai Super Kings in 2023, the team is looking to bounce back in full force this time.
Parthiv Patel also spoke about the challenges of the auction room. “There is tension in auctions,” he said, “but if you come with good preparation and planning, things can turn in your favour.”
