Delhi Capitals batter Rishabh Pant’s mysterious post on social media has left the team owners puzzled about what he means. Pant’s post comes just weeks after one of the team’s owners confirmed he would be kept for the IPL 2025 season.
The IPL 2025 mega auction is set to happen later this year and all 10 teams are looking to change their line-ups before next year’s T20 tournament. Indian cricketers like KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma might also be up for grabs in the auction.
On October 12, Pant wondered if he would be sold in the upcoming mega auction for IPL 2025. He asked fans to guess how much he would be sold for. Pant’s post quickly gained attention and confused the Delhi Capitals’ owners before the auction.
“If I go to the auction, will I be sold or not and for how much??” Pant posted on the platform X (formerly Twitter).
According to Cricbuzz, Rishabh Pant’s puzzling message came soon after a meeting with co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi in Dubai. This meeting happened after India’s win over Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test. Pant talked about his retention and the team’s future plans.
The report also said that Rishabh and DC reached an agreement during their meeting about his retention and auction strategy. However, Pant’s social media post has left the team owners unsure.
A source close to the DC ownership group said, “We’ve seen it, and we’re not sure why he did it (the post on X).”
Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal confirmed that the franchise would keep Rishabh Pant for the IPL 2025 season. He told IANS that retention decisions would be made after discussions with GMR and team’s cricket director Sourav Ganguly.
Rishabh has been with DC since his IPL debut in 2016 and became the team’s captain in 2021. His recent tweet might have been a joke given that he is an important player for the franchise. Pant made a strong comeback in IPL 2024 after recovering from injuries from a car accident in December 2022.
