In a meeting between the IPL owners and the board, Jay Shah hinted at a possible extension of IPL 2025 while speaking to The Times of India.
Where the table was divided into two parts. One side demanded not to hold a mega-auction, while the other expressed a desire to maintain the old traditions of the IPL.
Jay Shah told that the schedule of IPL can be increased from 74 matches to 84 matches. However, he also made it clear that it all depends on the collective decision from the BCCI.
He said about this, “Nothing is fixed. We will take a decision collectively. We also have to keep in mind the workload and window of the players. This is in the contract, but it has to be decided by the BCCI.”
During this meeting, Shah further said, the board will listen to the opinion of all the franchises and will not ignore anyone’s point, even if it is in minority.
“We have heard the opinions of all the franchises. For us, the minority opinion is as important as the majority opinion. Ultimately, the BCCI officials will decide. Those who have a good team said there is no need for a big auction and those who do not have a good team want a big auction. Shuffle as well as continuity is important for the growth of the game,”
Shah said..
With reference to women’s cricket, Shah also confirmed that India will not host the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
He also said, “When I am confident that we can include more women players in the team, we will add an additional team.”
Amidst all these decisions, IPL fans will now have to wait and watch what the BCCI’s next step is.
