Indian cricketer Abdul Samad has made history by scoring centuries in both innings of a Ranji Trophy match. He reached this impressive milestone on 21 October during the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024.
These two centuries in its second match of the season of the day against Odisha made Abdul Samad the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to do so in the prestigious tournament.
Playing at the famous Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Samad showcased his powerful batting skills in the first innings scoring an exciting 127 runs off just 117 balls. His innings included six fours and nine sixes.
Although Jammu and Kashmir fell short of taking the lead, finishing with 270 runs compared to Odisha’s 272, Samad’s batting was impressive and left a strong impression.
In the second inning Samad continued to shine – scoring another century in just 105 balls with five fours and six sixes. His outstanding achievement not only makes history but also displays his exceptional talent.
Abdul Samad’s two centuries lit up Barabati Stadium as he ended with an unbeaten score of108 runs off108 balls, helping Jammu and Kashmir set a challenging target of269 runs for Odisha with just over two sessions left on Day 4.
His hard-hitting talent caught the attention of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who signed him in 2020. Over five seasons he has played 50 matches for SRH scoring over 550 runs and hitting 36 sixes.
Abdul Samad’s two centuries come just as the IPL2025 retention deadline approaches. There are reports that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) may release Samad before the IPL2025 mega auction, but his Ranji Trophy runs could attract interest from other teams in the upcoming auction.
Reports suggest that SRH will keep South African wicketkeeper Heinrich Klassen, Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins, batter Travis Head, and Indian players Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy before the IPL2025 mega auction.
However Samad’s explosive performances in the ongoing Ranji Trophy2024-25 could make him a sought-after player at the mega auction, helping him find a new team next month.
