The players’ draft for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 has concluded. The seven franchises selected 62 domestic and 16 international players. In this year’s auction several prominent names from national squad and experienced domestic players went unsold.
Notable players like Mominul Haque and Mosaddek Hossain despite their extensive experience found themselves without a team. Mominul, categorized in Group C, remained unsold for the second year in a row. He had been picked up mid-season by Rangpur Riders last year but played just one match.
Similarly Mosaddek Hossain, who captained the Dhaka team last season, was left without any bidders this time, despite having played nine matches in the previous season.
Several other well-known domestic players including Sohag Gazi, Sumon Khan, and Prantik Nawrose Nabil also went unsold. Even Ashiqur Rahman Shibli – the highest run-scorer in the U-19 Asia Cup 2024 failed to attract any interest highlighting the fierce competition and unpredictability of this year’s draft.
List of Prominent Players Left Unpicked
- Mominul Haque (Category C): The former Test captain remained unsold for the second consecutive season.
- Mosaddek Hossain: Despite captaining Dhaka last season, Mosaddek was left without a team this year.
- Shuvagata Hom: Last year’s Chattogram Challengers captain found no takers, even after leading his side to the playoffs.
Nazmul Islam Apu, Fazle Mahmud, Shykat Ali, Muktar Ali, and Rubel Hossain – all went unpicked despite their experience and contributions in previous seasons. Sohag Gazi, Sumon Khan, Prantik Nawrose Nabil, and Ashiqur Rahman Shibli also remained unsold.
Many players went unsold but they still have the chance to join teams outside the draft if the BPL teams decide to sign them later. According to the BPL chairman, the franchises can later bargain with the unsold players to include them in the team.
