Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the new head coach of Punjab Kings. Aakash Chopra said that there will be many changes in the team with the arrival of Ponting. The biggest change will be the reduction in the number of English players in the team.
Chopra said on his YouTube channel,
“Now there won’t be so many English players. Players who were bought for Rs 18 crore or Rs 12 crore will be sent back. Now there will be some change there. Now there will be more Australian players.”
This could be true as Ricky Ponting himself has been a great cricketer for Australia. He knows the Australian players very well. That’s why they want him in the team.
Chopra had another interesting take. He said that some Australian players from Delhi Capitals can now come to Punjab Kings. This is because Ponting was earlier the coach of Delhi Capitals. They know the players well.
But will this change change the fortunes of Punjab Kings? The team has not been performing well in recent times. They reached the final but could not win the trophy.
Chopra also spoke about it. “Whether they didn’t win the trophy because they made too many changes or they were forced to make changes because they didn’t win the trophy – it’s a chicken-and-egg situation.It is true that Punjab Kings have made a lot of changes in the last few years.
