The former India captain filed this Defamation Case years ago seeking justice. MS Dhoni wants Rs 100 crore in damages from multiple parties. They falsely linked him to the 2013 IPL Betting Scandal according to his lawsuit.
Justice R N Manjula issued this interim order on February 11 specifically. The court engaged official interpreters back in October 2025 for this work. MS Dhoni must now fund that entire translation process himself.
Who Did MS Dhoni Sue?
MS Dhoni filed the Defamation Case against four different parties originally. Retired IPS officer G Sampathkumar tops that list of defendants. Zee Media Corporation and journalist Sudhir Chaudhary were also named together.
News Nation Network rounds out the group of accused parties. All these defendants allegedly spread false information linking Dhoni to betting. The IPL Betting Scandal from 2013 destroyed many cricket reputations back then.
Dhoni claims these parties seriously damaged his reputation through baseless accusations. His legal team argues Rs 100 crore represents fair compensation for this damage. That massive sum shows how seriously he takes protecting his name.
Why the Rs 10 Lakh Order?
The court called this transcription work a “humongous task”. At least one interpreter and typist needs three to four months full-time. Additional costs for making copies add up quickly beyond just translation.
Normal civil suits require plaintiffs to provide such documents with their complaints. That makes Dhoni legally responsible for bearing these transcription costs himself. The court simply followed standard defamation case procedures here clearly.
March 12, 2026 becomes the payment deadline for this Rs 10 lakh. The money goes directly into the Chief Justice Relief Fund account. Interpreters must finish their work before the third week of March 2026.
Next Hearing Scheduled
The court scheduled the next hearing for March 12, 2026 specifically. That date coincides with the payment deadline interestingly enough. The Defamation Case will continue after the translation work is complete.
Nobody knows which language these CDs originally contained, even today. That mystery adds another layer to this complicated legal battle.
