The heinous crime at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has shaken the entire nation. The victim’s body was found in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9. Subsequently, a civic volunteer was arrested for his involvement in the crime.
Health services in West Bengal remained affected for the tenth consecutive day as junior doctors in government hospitals went on strike demanding justice. They are demanding that the culprits be punished at the earliest and the postmortem report of the victim be made public.
The Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation of the case from the Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the CBI has started its investigation on August 14.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly also condemned the incident and demanded strict punishment for the culprits.
“This is a terrible incident. The CBI should punish the culprits so severely that no one dares to commit such a crime in the future.”
