The Asian Cricket Council meeting in Dubai got pretty ugly. BCCI officials Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar demanded the Asia Cup trophy back. ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi just kept dodging their questions throughout the entire discussion.

Naqvi wouldn’t even admit India won the tournament until Shukla called him out. He basically ran circles around the trophy question without giving straight answers. The BCCI guys left the meeting feeling frustrated and ignored by Naqvi’s behaviour.
Naqvi’s Evasive Tactics During Meeting
Mohsin Naqvi “beat around the bush” when asked about returning the trophy directly. He showed zero interest in solving this mess despite India winning fair and square. Observers noticed how Naqvi avoided giving any clear commitment on the matter.
“There was no intention to resolve any matter from PCB and ACC Chair Naqvi. He had all the time to talk about everything under the sun, but didn’t acknowledge India winning. It was very strange to see how he conducted himself in the meeting,” an official said.
The PCB chief clearly had no plans to hand over the trophy anytime soon. His attitude rubbed the BCCI representatives the wrong way during those tense talks. Naqvi reportedly took the trophy with him after the final match ended abruptly.
BCCI’s Proposal Gets Rejected
Ashish Shelar offered a simple solution to end this drama once and for all. He suggested Naqvi could send the trophy to the ACC office in Dubai easily. The BCCI would then arrange to collect it from there without any hassles.
“He kept beating around the bush. Shelar put his foot down and asked him to send the trophy and medals to the ACC office, and BCCI will themselves arrange the logistics of getting it back to India. Imagine, he didn’t even agree to that. Naqvi was informed about the BCCI’s intention to lodge a protest with ICC too, since it’s a tournament approved by the ICC,” he added.
But Naqvi shot down this reasonable proposal without giving proper reasons for rejection. The BCCI officials couldn’t believe someone would act this petty over a trophy. India’s players were left confused when no presentation ceremony happened after their victory.
BCCI Plans Formal Protest
The BCCI will now take this fight to the ICC meeting coming up soon. They’re planning to file an official complaint against Naqvi’s unprofessional conduct here. Future ACC meetings will have to address this unresolved trophy dispute somehow eventually.
