India won the T20 World Cup only twice. First was way back in 2007. The second victory came in 2024. Many players won the World Cup but not the IPL.

Multiple cricketers from these two squads never won. They played in the IPL for multiple seasons. But never managed to lift the trophy. These players had successful international careers. Yet the IPL title eluded them completely. Their stories are interesting and inspiring.

Top 7 T20 World Cup Winners Without IPL

  1. Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag was in that 2007 squad. He got injured before the final match. He played for the Delhi Daredevils team. Later joined the Kings XI Punjab franchise. He retired without winning the IPL title. His career was still brilliant overall.

  1. Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan played in the 2007 tournament. He was the Man of the Match in the final. Against Pakistan, he took three wickets. His bowling was absolutely match-winning. He played for multiple IPL franchises. Kings XI Punjab, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai. But never managed to win a trophy. His IPL journey was quite long.

  1. Sreesanth

Sreesanth played all the games in the 2007 tournament. His semi-final spell vs Australia was great. He took a winning catch in the final. His contributions were really important. Later, he played for multiple teams. Kings XI, Rajasthan, and Kochi. He faced a ban but never won the IPL. His career had ups and downs.

  1. Ajit Agarkar

Ajit Agarkar played two matches in the 2007 WC. Later became a national selector himself. He saw the 2024 World Cup victory come. As a selector, he helped India win. His IPL time was with Kolkata. Delhi Daredevils also signed him. Never won an IPL title in career. His journey was interesting and long.

  1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant played all games in the 2024 tournament. He was the primary wicketkeeper. His batting contributions were valuable. Delhi Capitals picked him originally. Recently moved to Lucknow. He’s yet to win the IPL title. His 2026 season will be crucial.

  1. Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh was the joint highest wicket-taker in the 2024 campaign. He played all the matches in the tournament. Punjab Kings signed him in 2019. He’s been with them for all these years. No IPL title came his way. His bowling was crucial for India.

  1. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj played three group matches in 2024. He didn’t play in the knockout section. Played for the Hyderabad and Bangalore teams. Now with the Gujarat Titans franchise. Never won an IPL title in career. His international performances are always good.

Virat Kohli Finally Won Everything

Virat Kohli won the T20 World Cup 2024. He scored the highest runs in the final. IPL’s highest run scorer is also him. RCB signed him originally in 2008. He waited 18 years for the title. Finally won the IPL in 2025 recently. His patience and consistency paid off. Kohli’s story shows cricket is unpredictable.
